SUZY KOPF: ORANGE CRUSH

September 6 - October 7, 2022

Baltimore-based artist Suzy Kopf's solo exhibition, Orange Crush, examines the impact of the American citrus industry and asks us to contemplate the complexities underneath the pleasant veneer built by groundbreaking midcentury advertising. Such advertising coached Americans to associate oranges not just with health and wellness but also with leisure, vacation, and the promise of paradise. Kopf’s watercolors, collages, digital illustrations, ceramics, and site-specific vinyl installations explore this mythology, and reveal its artifice by highlighting the problematic labor practices and catastrophic environmental impact of citriculture.
